Phoenix

Soundtrack for Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe

Electronics,
Theatre,
Composition

The music of Phoenix was created for a 1 hour performance and permanent sound installation in MOMU during E/Motion. Fashion in Transition.

In an intimate light installation by Jan Versweyveld – through a series of live performances directed by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe – raw fragments of personal stories emerge.

The stories are told on the immersive evolving music of Heleen Van Haegenborgh. A combination of Richard Wagner’s slowed down Lohengrin, space shuttles, percussion, Japanese influences, electronics, karaōke vogue snippets and folkloric traditions. Interspersed with a piano countertenor ballad.

The music can be seen as a realization of one of the designer poster quotes: Putting things together and combining traditions, that is culture to me.
