Dark Music days with Gudrun Oskarsdottir
Piano and Harpsichord
Dark Music Days, Reykjavik
For Piano and Harpsichord. In Collaboration with Gudrun Oskarsdottir and Geert Vanoorlé.
This work for piano and harpsichord is a collaboration with the Icelandic harpsichordist Guðrún Òskarsdóttir and visual artist Geert Vanoorlé.
A universal abstract world, detached from time and place, was built. Some location concepts that occur in every society were a central starting point, designed both visually and musically. Pieces got names like the Factory, the Wood, the Corridor, the Battle Field, the Water, the Bedroom,…
Because of the common affinity and experience with inside techniques of both musicians, it in the first place became an investigation and exchange of the different playing techniques.
The goal is to tell something that expresses the universally human and emphasizes shared feelings in a community. With a focus on the common and not on diversity. The energy of human movement, specific to certain actions and places is central to the music. The elements to build that world are musical sounds of spaces, folkloric puzzle pieces (a random collection from all over the world), field recordings and a visual map.
